Host Facility Requirements

The internship program provides DAN another method of PDE data collection while encouraging and promoting the educational advances of students. With the student collecting the data, the DAN Business Member is supporting DAN Research as well.

DAN's Internship Program Coordinator will be the primary contact for both the Intern and the Host Facility. This coordinator will maintain contact at regular intervals with the host facility manager to track the intern's progress and deal with any significant issues that may arise. If necessary, the Program Coordinator may visit the Host Facility to observe data collection.

DAN will help recruit PDE participants in advance by promoting the project and host facility participation in Alert Diver magazine, On Board newsletter, DAN Research Newsletter, DAN's website, and press releases.

In return, DAN is asking the Host Facility to provide:

• workspace for the intern;
• promotion opportunities; and
• assistance in providing divers for data collection.

The Host Facility must:

• have an active diving clientele;
• have diving activities occurring at least five days a week (weather permitting) from June-August; and
• be a current DAN Business Member.

Selection criteria will be based on:

• enthusiasm;
• adequate workspace; and
• an active diving clientele.

DAN is also interested in dive businesses that can help with the cost of hosting the interns — that is, possibly providing room and board. The DAN Research Department will work with the host facility and other local contacts to secure reasonable lodging.
